The question, why would you need a Health Muse, begins with “tell me your story”.
What are the things that you have always wanted in your life, but that seem just out of reach? Is it love? Is it to lose weight? Is it to have clear skin? Is it to sleep? Is it regular healthy poop? Is it to live free of indigestion? Is it to live in balance?
What have you done to get over that barrier?
My bet is that you have researched it and gone at it from a variety of different directions to still find it elusive and unattainable. Why is that?
Let’s just take weight as an example. You have probably gone to Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, and or tried Nutrisystem. You have gone to Google, and searched and read looking for new ways to approach it. You have probably talked to your Doctor, who told you to diet and lose some weight (wasn’t that helpful?), but gave you no clues as to how to do that other than to eat less. Someone or many others have told you to have will power and be more vigilant. You could write a book on the subject, you have researched it so much, but even as you jumpstarted each time, eventually you have lost heart because success just went through your fingers like sand.
Ok then, let’s take love as an example. All your friends have a honey. You feel you are not complete unless you meet “the one”. You have read dozens of self-help books on how to “catch” the right guy. You put yourself out there, but either you haven’t met anyone, or he was definitely not Mr. Right, or the ones you meet get disappeared pretty quickly.
Or let’s go to the opposite end of the spectrum, maybe your issue is that you don’t poop regularly. Or you go back and forth from too hard to too loose. You have been to your doctor, and you have medication to take, and yet, the back and forth bowel continues. You have gotten on Google, and researched and tried lots of different approaches, and yet, the problem persists.
What all of these things have in common is that you have put a ton of knowledge and effort into fixing your problem, and yet it still exists.
The question, “How much do you really want this?” becomes irrelevant. You really want it or you wouldn’t have gone at it from so many different directions, only to hit a wall and go back to your old ways.
Now there are times when some of this could be physical issues and I will need to refer you to a doctor. Many of these things however, can be improved with lifestyle changes, and that’s where I come in.
So I will ask you, “are you ready for a change and to approach it from a new direction?” Are you ready to try yet again, but this time with a pathfinder to shine light to inspire you to get over the hurdles?
But how do you do this? Didn’t we just go over how hard you have worked for it, to still be back at square 1?
It starts with getting you past your “already always”.
Interesting phrase.
Some years ago, I had a business partner who had been through Landmark Forum. It was human potential training, somewhat like EST, that was a bit abusive but inspired change. It was NOT my thing. But she had a couple of phrases that she used from her training that I really loved, and one was to get past your “already always”.*
So what is “already always?” We think we are open-minded, but the reality is everything we hear and everything we believe, is filtered through previous experience and through what we have been told about ourselves. We now reinforce that in our minds. “Already always” is our known truth, especially about ourselves. Unless we can break through that and look at the world through new eyes, nothing changes; we go back to our “already always”. Before we can begin, the blinders must come off.
As a start, don’t listen to everything your mind tells you. It is not the truth. It’s just some idle chatter to keep you in your “already always.” It tears you down, so that you stay in your known truth, which has become your comfort zone.
According to Sean Croxton ” The ideas and concepts we accept, either consciously or with no thought at all, are passed on to the subconscious mind which is responsible for the overwhelming majority of our feelings and behaviors.” These are often formed at childhood.
Commit to finding a new way to change your perception. You need to open your eyes, see the world from a new point of view, and change your filters. This is practically impossible to do on your own.
You would not hire me to be your Muse for my BA at Berkeley, or even for my credentials from The Institute of Functional Nutrition or for all of my management work experience. Now mind you, it doesn’t hurt that i am “The self-proclaimed subject expert” here,and that will certainly help me ask the right questions. All of this has value to help you get a new perspective, but you too have knowledge, you just haven’t figured out how to cross the finish line. Your “already always” hasn’t allowed you to take off the blinders. It hasn’t allowed you to let go of your resistance.

You have to believe that you have the power to change your life if you could just see that path.
