My article was just published in Home Zone by KathiMcCarty

My friend Kathi Mccarty has released her magazine about Meth and all the damage that it does to property and to human health.
Her story is very compelling.
She bought her dream home up against the Rockies in Colorado, a cute little log cabin, and learned shortly after that she had thyroid eye disease. She made the decision to rent her home until she was through her health crisis and used a very reputable agency to take care of the rent and the details of renting it out.
They rented it to someone who cooked meth inside her house.
She discovered it fairly early on, but there was already so much damage done to the property that she lost much of the value of her home.
I wrote two articles in this magazine. One on the impact of Meth on human health, and then I took it one step further to the damage of meth on children’s health.
Kathy was devastated. After a period of time to lick her wounds, she became an activist to inform others of the dangers of meth toxins, has gotten laws changed in the state of Colorado and is now teaching others in real estate to protect their clients from Kathi’s horrific fate.
And what’s really cool, she has developed a gismo that would notify an owner if there was meth being detected in the home they were renting out.
Information is power. Please take a moment to read this magazine, and if you know anyone home shopping or if you are friendly with a real estate person, please share the information.
And read my two articles on meth toxins and the damage they can do to your health.

This is my article. I also have one on t he health dangers of meth and adult bodies.
If you have read my earlier article in this magazine about the health impact of Meth chemicals on adults, the effect on children’s health is far more significant.
Exposure to these poisons is in addition to all the environmental toxins we live with daily. We live in a toxic soup, and the toxins in our everyday lives are far more dangerous to a child than to an adult.
Over 80,000 chemicals, industrial chemicals, solvents, and pesticides have been introduced into our products since the 1940s. Some of these chemicals are neurotoxins that impact the child’s hormones, learning capabilities, and mood. Others are endocrine disruptors that can halt or harm the development of a fetus causing congenital disabilities, sex hormone changes, or gender confusion. Unfortunately, a child’s body is far more vulnerable to toxins.
Depending upon the toxicity of both parents at conception, there can be as many as 287 toxins in a baby’s umbilical cord at birth.
By the time a child is 5, they can already have 7 pounds of toxins in their little bodies. This is before exposure to the harsh chemicals present in a meth home.
These are the additional statistics for a child growing up in the US under normal circumstances.
- “A developing child’s chemical exposures are greater pound-for-pound than those of adults.
- “An immature, porous blood-brain barrier allows higher chemical exposures to the developing brain.
- “Children have lower levels of some chemical-binding proteins, allowing more of a chemical to reach ‘target organs.’
- “A baby’s organs and systems are rapidly developing and thus are often more vulnerable to damage from chemical exposure.
- “Systems that detoxify and excrete industrial chemicals are not fully developed.
- “The longer future life span of a child compared to an adult allows more time for adverse effects to arise.”[1]
“Children are especially susceptible to damage. Toxic exposures throughout childhood can have lifelong effects on health. These factors contribute to children’s health, including genetics, nutrition, and exercise. Unfortunately, the adverse health consequences of environmental exposures may occur along with other risk factors, and it is often difficult to determine the extent that the environment contributes to children’s health.”[2]
Functional medicine believes that it is “toxic load” in a human body that topples over into inflammation and chronic illness.
Daily exposure to environmental toxins has caused 53% of our children to have chronic illnesses.
I explained that meth crystalizes and gets into the ‘bones” of the home when heated. So, it only takes an environment where someone has smoked meth once for the child to inhale or swallow the meth chemical toxic substances or absorb them through the skin.
Low levels of some meth ingredients may produce headache, nausea, dizziness, and fatigue. High levels of exposure cause shortness of breath, coughing, chest pain, dizziness, lack of coordination, eye and tissue irritation, chemical burns (to the skin, eyes, mouth, and nose), and death.
The solvents and corrosive substances used in meth production can cause skin or respiratory tract irritation or damage the central nervous system. Chronic exposure may cause cancer, damage to vital organs, and brain damage. In addition, standard cleaning will not remove methamphetamine and some of the chemicals used to produce it.
These chemicals may remain on eating utensils, floors, countertops, etc. Toxic by-products are often improperly disposed of outdoors, endangering children and others in the area.
Children are more susceptible to exposure. They crawl and play close to the ground, so they are in contact with dirt and dust in the home. Their hands, toys, and other objects get put into their mouths. They have a lower body mass, so they eat, drink and breathe more than an adult.
Children do not yet have adults’ natural defense systems; their brains, lungs, immune systems, and other rapidly developing systems are not yet in place. They do not yet have the biological defense systems that adults have. Their skin and blood-brain barriers are more permeable. Their metabolic and detoxification systems have not yet developed.
All of this can influence the development of diseases later in life.
Since the meth problem is relatively new, no longitudinal studies show the long-term effects on children. Therefore, when working with these children, a parent should utilize the same protocol as other drug and alcohol exposure techniques.
All these environmental and meth toxins must go through the clearinghouse of the liver. Supporting the child’s liver with healthy food and filtered water is the first step toward detoxification. I would also recommend, just like with adults, that you watch my three podcasts on the liver and follow my suggestions for food and for possible supplementation to suggest to your child’s pediatrician. This information will help detox these poisons out of their body.
This child needs all the phytonutrients available through a diet of all plant food colors for building blocks to repair and replace damaged cells. An organic diet eating all the rainbow colors is the foundation for any child’s health, including cruciferous vegetables for healing. In addition, eating as close to the farm as possible for fresh-picked produce increases the available phytonutrients.
In addition, eat quality protein and reduce sugar intake.
I have done three podcasts on the liver, and I suggest that you make it a priority to watch them, take notes and then implement what you learn.
